Mobilities - Cyprus
The fifth mobility of the project “LEARNING THROUGH TIME: LIVING HISTORY FOR LIFE LONG LEARNING” took place in Cyprus between the 20th and 24th of May 2015 by the host organisation “ Adult Education Centres of Larnaka/Famagusta District”.
Participants from Italy, Romania, Poland and Latvia had the opportunity to experience educational visits to byzantine and medieval sites of Cyprus, guided visits to museums, to take part at a pottery workshop and to also watch the final events of the host organisation.
The guided visits to Pierides Museum in Larnaka, Leventis Municipal Museum in Nicosia, Saint John Lampadistis Monastery and the Byzantine Museum in Kalopanagiotis village as well as the visits at Omodos and Lefkara village were an informative experience for them in regards to the island’s history. The strolls in the narrow streets of the villages allowed them to enjoy the true Cypriot medieval atmosphere as well as experience the Cypriot traditional cuisine.
The workshop that followed the screening of a documentary on Cypriot Medieval Pottery, took place at “Studio Ceramics”, where under the guidance of Mr.Efthymios Symeou the participants had the chance to decorate pottery applying the same methods.
The final events of the host organization took place on the 22nd and 23rd of May 2015 at Larnaka Medieval Castle. The main purpose of these events was to present the work that was accomplished by the groups of different courses, both to the projects’ participants as well as to the broader community of Larnaka, focusing on Cyprus Medieval History. Everyone had the pleasure of watching the theatre group present a well known tale of Cyprus called “To vasilopoulo tis Venedias”, singing groups presenting the folk song “Arodafnousa”, folk dancing groups presenting traditional dances with the accompaniment of musicians playing traditional organs as well as the Byzantine choir presenting byzantine hymns.
Nevertheless, during the mobility, the participants had the chance to enjoy the sun and the sea of the island of Cyprus!!
